WATER SAFETY EDUCATION

CBDR continues efforts to prevent water-related accidents and drownings through its water safety education programs for youths and adults. CBDR water safety programs include Lifeguard Larry, Reasons People Drown, Water-Proofing Your Family , cold water near-drowning protocols and hypothermia prevention and treatment

  • Lifeguard Larry is a program designed for elementary school age children. Through a visual presentation and demonstrations, the children learn the importance of properly fitted personal flotation devices (PFD) and ways to play safe in and around the water.

  • Reasons People Drown is a powerful audiovisual program designed to educate on drowning prevention. The program sheds light on the causes, as well as the misconceptions, of drowning.

  • Waterproofing Your Family is an instructional program which teaches, through practical application, how to keep your family safe.

In cooperation with Columbia Basin Racquet Club and the Tri-City Court Club, CBDR schedules events in the pool to illustrate the importance of a properly fitted PFD and what to do in case of emergency.

Community Events

CBDR team members attend a number of community events to disperse water safety education materials and answer the public's questions.
